Maarten is partner in de praktijkgroep IE en Media. Hij is gespecialiseerd in merkenrecht en bescherming van technologie, waaronder life sciences. Maarten adviseert gevestigde merken in de sport-, mode- en technologiebranche in hun strijd tegen namaak en geschillen over inbreuken. Hij procedeert veelvuldig over merkenrecht en de exploitatie en bescherming van technologie, maar ook in geschillen van meer algemene aard, zoals contractuele geschillen. Daarnaast adviseert hij high-tech bedrijven op het gebied van R&D-samenwerking, licenties en kennisbescherming.
Maarten studeerde aan de universiteiten van Utrecht en Cambridge en werkte als journalist, rechter en officier van justitie voordat hij de stap maakte naar de advocatuur.
Maarten is een van de weinige specialisten op het gebied van bedrijfsgeheimen en doceert en publiceert regelmatig over dat onderwerp. Daarnaast geeft hij regelmatig cursussen aan beroepsgenoten en anderen op diverse terreinen van het intellectueel eigendom. Maarten is raadsheer-plaatsvervanger bij het gerechtshof Arnhem-Leeuwarden als IE-expert en daarnaast redacteur van het toonaangevende vakblad op het gebied van industriële eigendom BIE. Hij is tevens lid van de examencommissie van vereniging voor IE procesadvocaten VIEPA, en IE deskundige op de lijst van functionarissen van de Ondernemingskamer van het gerechtshof Amsterdam.
