Mappa Mondo
In 2008 Kennedy Van der Laan participated in the IJsselmeerloop
(IJsselmeer Run) with a team of runners. The IJsselmeerloop is a
running competition and recreational run around the IJsselmeer
lake, with its start and finish in Purmerend. The teams collect
money for
Mappa Mondo, a project of the Dutch Red
Cross. The specially equipped houses of Mappa Mondo serve as
temporary homes for children who are seriously ill. In these
houses the children are given the room and professional care
they need to feel completely at home. Meanwhile, their parents
get a chance to unwind a little. In the past years, participants
to the IJsselmeerloop and the Den Helder-Maastrichtloop have
already collected €500,000.
