Marian Kennedy leaves Kennedy Van der Laan

Marian Kennedy, partner and co-founder of Kennedy Van der Laan is
leaving the firm as of 31 December 2007. She will remain an advisor
to Kennedy Van der Laan in an of counsel role.
"Marian is a role model for many both within and outside of
the firm. She has realized her dream of creating, together with
several colleagues, a new type of law firm in Amsterdam and growing
this firm to be one of the leading law firms in The
Netherlands," says Joost Linnemann, Managing Partner of
Kennedy Van der Laan. "Full of energy, unconventional, and
always committed to strengthening the position of women in society
in general and in law practice in particular. We will miss her but
at the same time we can only admire the step she is now taking. We
are very happy that we will continue to enjoy the benefit of her
experience and expertise in her new role as of counsel."
Marian Kennedy (59) started her legal career in the United States,
as an attorney in California and later New York. In 1986 she moved
to The Netherlands and quickly earned a Dutch law degree. In 1992
she launched Kennedy Van der Laan together with ten other (male)
Dutch attorneys and focussed on binding top international and
national clients to the new law firm. Kennedy Van der Laan, the
first law firm in The Netherlands with a dedicated team for the
technology sector, has grown in the last 15 years to be one of the
top independent law firms in The Netherlands.
"I am proud of what we have all accomplished in fifteen years:
we are commercially and financially successful but we have also
kept a clear focus on our role in society and on supporting our own
people," says Marian Kennedy. "It has been a wonderful
fifteen years, but it is enough. I am leaving Kennedy Van der Laan
with a very positive feeling, knowing that the firm will do just
fine without me. I am ready for a new adventure." Marian
Kennedy will move to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2008.
