Kennedy Van der Laan Strengthens Employment Law Group with Two New Partners

AMSTERDAM, January 10, 2011 – On 1 January 2011, Kennedy Van der Laan appointed Eva Knipschild and Inge de Laat as partners. The two attorneys work in the Employment Law group. Their appointment gives Knipschild and De Laat (both from 1977) the privilege of being the youngest partners in the Amsterdam law firm.

“This is good news for our Employment Law group, good news for Kennedy Van der Laan as a firm, and perhaps even good news for the Dutch legal profession in general”, says Joost Linnemann, managing partner of Kennedy Van der Laan and president of the diversity committee of the Dutch Bar Association. “Both attorneys were already associate partners and have excellent track records in their fields. Besides, there are not enough female partners in the legal profession, including in our firm. I am therefore very pleased with the appointment of these ladies, who moreover have become partners of Kennedy Van der Laan at such an early stage in their careers.”

Eva Knipschild engages in all aspects of employment law, including flexible employment arrangements and outsourcing/transfers of undertaking and (collective) redundancies law. She also advises both employers and works councils on aspects of employee co-governance law. Besides her work as an attorney, Knipschild is editor of the leading employment law journal in the Netherlands and the journal for works councils, and regularly publishes in various professional journals. She also often delivers courses and lectures at seminars. She joined Kennedy Van der Laan in 2005.

The practice of Inge de Laat also covers all aspects of employment law, including employment agreements, collective and individual dismissals and outsourcing projects/transfers of undertaking. In addition, De Laat is a specialist in the field of privacy, protection of personal information and health care. Her clients are national and international businesses and health care institutions, but she also assists private individuals in employment law and disciplinary proceedings. She regularly publishes and teaches in her areas of expertise. De Laat has been with Kennedy Van der Laan since her graduation in 2001.

Logical Step for Employment Law Group
Chris Nekeman, head of the Employment Law group, calls the appointments a logical step in the further expansion of the practice. “Considering the size of our group and the importance of the clients whom we advise, our two new partners have received an enthusiastic welcome. Including Johan Pel, the group now has four partners who contribute not only their experience in the broad field of employment law, but also their specialist knowledge. This makes us a strong team”, says Nekeman.

With its 17 staff members, the Employment Law group is one of the largest groups within Kennedy Van der Laan. Our attorneys deal with the employment-law consequences of all forms of corporate transactions, including (international) mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing and business restructuring. Our clients are national and international businesses, works councils, members of management boards, employees’ associations and individual employees.
