Marjolein Westerbeek
Marjolein Westerbeek has been an associate in the Employment Law
group of Kennedy Van der Laan since 2004. Earlier, she earned her
LLM degree in Utrecht after having completed mainstream law studies
in Maastricht, and she worked as a researcher at the
University.
Marjolein focuses on both individual and collective labor-law
issues. National and international businesses make up the greater
part of her clients, but she also assists private persons. In 2006
she was seconded part-time to one of our big insurance clients,
where she successfully assisted in a large reorganization. In 2009
and 2010 she was seconded to a large international
company in the world of sports, which is a world greatly
appealing to her. Here too she assisted in a large-scale
reorganization, from strategy planning and negotiations with the
Works Council all the way up to the settlement of individual
employments. To date she is still closely involved - working also
in-house on a flexible basis - in the (individual) employment-law
issues of this firm.
Marjolein specializes in the employment-law position of expats, and
she represents both employers and employees in this respect. She
also publishes on topics in this field.
Apart from her work as a lawyer, Marjolein has
been secretary of the editor of the labor-law journal
Sociaal Recht (currently named Tijdschrift Recht en
Arbeid). At present, Marjolein is secretary of the Equal
Treatment Working Party of the Employment Law Association (VVA).
Besides, Marjolein teaches courses on employment law in Dutch and
English to legal professionals, but also at clients’, and she
lectures at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
