Kennedy van der Laan has a strong regulated-markets practice. In particular in the energy and telecommunications market, multi-disciplinary teams of lawyers work together in advising clients on market and regulatory developments relevant to their businesses. Market liberalisation in the energy sector, often due to EU regulation, has lead to a continuing change of which players in the energy market need to stay ahead. Changes such as industry consolidation, privatisation, energy trading, and also the regulatory bodies such as the Energy (DTE) and Competition (NMa) authorities, create demanding challenges. Challenges for which Kennedy van der Laan's Energy team has pragmatic solutions; solutions resolving today's issues while anticipating the problems of tomorrow.

Members of the team have worked for both public and private companies, as well as foreign and domestic new entrants to the liberalising Dutch energy markets, on a wide range of issues regarding in particular generation, transportation, delivery and trade of electricity and gas. Kennedy van der Laan has specific industry knowledge on regulatory, competition, planning, M&A, finance and dispute resolution issues.

Based on its industry knowledge and experience the Energy team has the capacity to advise on the broad spectrum of electricity and gas related issues as well as renewable energy in the Netherlands, from large corporate transactions to specific regulatory advice.
